Meetings have been scheduled with key legislators.
The AOMSM has arranged for the opportunity for legislators to see the face of Oriental Medicine through one on one meetings.

Or you can schedule your own meeting, follow the directions below.

The objective of these meetings is to educate and inform legislators about the purpose and value of acupuncture and Oriental Medicine as an important component in the comprehensive health care act, as well as to educate them of the public health risks posed by non-acupunctursts or physicians using acupuncture needles.

Options include attending a morning training session with our lobbyist, outlining a procedure, including materials and talking points for morning meetings with key legislators. Please plan to stay for lunch. We encourage acupuncturists who can, to schedule meetings with your own legislators for the afternoon. You will have the inspiration and materials to meet with your legislators on your own. Please go to aomsm.org for a script for your use when scheduling an appointment to meet with your legislator.

    NOW, before January 29th

    Here's How:

    1. Find your State Representative:

    2. Make the Call:

State your name, that you are one of their constituents, and ask them to support "An Act Relative to the Safe Treatment of Pain" HD740.

About "An Act Relative to the Safe Treatment of Pain" HD740.

The wording of this bill is address a public health and safety issue; non-physicians or non-acupuncturists practicing acupuncture in the State of MA. Across the country, a growing number of physical therapists (and other allied health professionals such as athletic trainers and occupational therapists) are circumventing state licensure requirements and regulations for the practice of medicine in general and acupuncture practice in particular by advertising and providing acupuncture services to an unsuspecting public under the term "trigger-point dry needling" (or an analogous term).

This is a serious threat to public health and safety. Follow this link to a 10 Point Brochure outlining this public health threat.

Please contact your state representative and ask them to Co-Sponsor "An Act relative to the practice of acupuncture", HD501.

About "An Act relative to the practice of acupuncture", HD501.

This bill seeks to accomplish the following two important goals:

    • 1.   Ensure that acupuncturists are able to be fairly reimbursed for their services by insurance plans in Massachusetts. Prohibit differentiation of reimbursement rates for acupuncture by provider types. Prohibit third party payer reimbursement for acupuncture services by anyone other than licensed acupuncturist or medical doctor. Treatment in the areas of pain management, post-traumatic stress disorder, substance abuse treatment, and nausea would be covered.
    • 2.   Prompt the Department of Public Health to convene a special commission to investigate the effective integration of acupuncture and oriental medicine into new practice models and payment methodologies under the health care reform.

Come join the AOMSM and add your energy to the wave of excitement about Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. Help us to create a "buzz" and connect with legislators at the State House! Let's show them why acupuncture is important. Think about how powerful it will be to have dozens of acupuncturists meet individually with legislators so early in this new legislative session.
