"Licensed Acupuncturist" (Lic.Ac./L.Ac.) is a professional title granted by the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Medicine, and can only be used by those who meet specific standards of professional study, Board certification by the National Certification Commission of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, and other regulations established by the MA Board of Registration in Medicine’s Committee on Acupuncture. Practice areas of expertise may be limited to Acupuncture (Dipl.Ac.), or may include certification in Chinese Herbology (Dipl.CH), Asian Bodywork Therapy (Dipl.ABT), or represent the full scope of Oriental Medicine certification, in the Diplomate of Oriental Medicine (Dipl.OM).
